Focus on Intergenerational Wealth
We at LEAGUE believe that one's life becomes a legacy only when we reach past our own lifetime in order to improve the lives of those who come after. That, in our view, is what makes life truly meaningful.
Through the provision of Intergenerational WealthTM, it is LEAGUE's aim to empower its Member-Partners to improve the quality of their own lives, so that they may ultimately improve the quality of the lives of others — friends and strangers alike — today, and for generations to come. These beliefs and aims are reflected in the 12th tenet of Our Credo:
"We believe that with each investment we initiate and each new Member-Partner we help to achieve Intergenerational Wealth, we add strength to the fabric of our free society. Through such proliferation of enduring familial wealth—of values, traditions and capital—society as a whole may be improved as future generations of our families are afforded the freedom to devote their time and unique talents to vocations or pursuits that they enjoy, provide personal fulfilment, and through which they may contribute to the betterment of humanity; and finally, take it upon themselves to purposefully train up their children and grandchildren to do the same."
LEAGUE Takes the Long View

One such tool we can put to work for you is LEAGUE's charitable arm — the LEAGUE Foundation.
Rather than setting up a family foundation for yourself, the LEAGUE Foundation, which is registered as a charity for tax purposes, can serve as a conduit for your long-term giving plans — as well as some estate planning needs. As Canada's first "donor advised giving" and "donor advised investing" vehicle, the foundation's sophisticated social/financial model allows donations to have a much greater impact through fee and tax efficiencies.
All of the foundation's administrative work is done by LEAGUE, so all of your donations go where you want them to. This is yet another way that LEAGUE partners with you to create a meaningful legacy for your family, and hopefully inspire others to do likewise.
Leaders, Not Followers
Because we are leaders wishing to set an example for individuals and other organizations, LEAGUE contributes 5% of its bottom line to the foundation every year. In this way, we have assisted organizations such as Absolute Leadership, The Greater Victoria Housing Society, Victoria Hospice, and most recently, the Navy’s Homecoming Memorial Project in Victoria, BC. We also encourage Member-Partners and our staff to fulfill themselves through their own philanthropic pursuits.
We are doing all this out of the belief that we express in the 21st tenet of Our Credo:
"We believe that there are certain tasks that no conscientious investor may shirk. We will do our part to ensure that future generations inherit from us a world that is cleaner, safer and happier than the one we know now. To these ends, we will continually invest a portion of our time, our expertise and our capital in the improvement of the quality of human life by partnering with select individuals and organizations whose vision and values align with our own, whose financial motives and practices are sound. Through LEAGUE’s charitable foundation, we will encourage and empower our Member-Partners to do the same."
LEAGUE proudly supports The Homecoming: Navy Centennial Project Committee
The Canadian Navy has had a long and rich history with the West Coast since its creation in 1910. Formed to provide protection to Canada in the lead up to WWI, it has served the country well through WWII, the Korean War, the Cold War, and the Gulf Wars as a base for operations by Canadians in the Pacific. It continues in that role today and, in co-operation with our Allies, this security envelope has expanded and now extends throughout the Pacific Rim.

The centre of that security is the strategically important base at Esquimalt. It has provided a home base for Canadian frigates, destroyers, supply ships, and submarines manned by tens of thousands of Canadian sailors who proudly have called themselves "Westcoasters."
Grateful for the region's hospitality, the Navy's involvement and contribution to the Greater Victoria community has been evidenced over the century in all aspects of the community. Today, as the largest employer in the area, its impact is felt daily in the make-up of volunteer groups, sports teams, and in giving back to the community as the United Way Campaign demonstrates every year.
The Homecoming Statue
As a means of acknowledgement and gratitude, a group of business leaders within the Greater Victoria community, along with retired and currently serving naval personnel, have come together to mark the momentous occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the Navy by commissioning well known local artist, Nathan Scott, to create a statue as a lasting tribute to the community. The statue, called "The Homecoming" will be the visible and permanent link between the Navy and its home community, a lasting legacy for generations to come.
How LEAGUE Members can help
LEAGUE wants to help its Member-Partners support this most valiant project. Each brick that will pave the walkway around The Homecoming statue costs $200. LEAGUE will contribute $20* toward the purchase of a personalized brick, complete with your own name and message.
We urge all Member-Partners to join in this effort, which promises to be a rallying point and local tourism attraction for decades to come!
LEAGUE has partnered with Absolute Leadership (http://www.absolute.org), a nonprofit organization with a sustainable operations model. This organization leverages the "sweat equity" of human capital, along with donated building materials and tools, to build houses and other facilities in Third World countries. Through its activities, Absolute matches Canadian teenagers with impoverished communities in Third World countries. This results in life-altering experiences that provide purpose and meaning for the first group, and direly needed homes, schools, clinics and other essentials for the other.
Through its Hero Holidays program, Canadian teens are given the opportunity to travel to developing nations where they build homes, schools and clinics, lead playgroups and comfort physically deformed orphans, and become involved in an array of other life-changing experiences.
LEAGUE Financial Partners is currently Absolute's principal supporter-along with Home Depot and the WestJet airline company. The long-term intention is that teenagers whose lives have been enriched though their family's investments with LEAGUE will have the opportunity to go through the Hero Holiday program themselves, and commit to living with purpose.
Through a co-ownership structure with its property investment pools and a not-for-profit organization such as Absolute, LEAGUE is providing the necessary investment structuring and capital to begin the development, continuing land stewardship services, and asset management over these projects to ensure sustainability for the investors and economic justice for the community. Absolute will provide human capital (manpower) for the developments as well as essential leadership training for the indigenous on-site managers and local students.
